October 9-10, 2026 – Ithaca, NY
The 17th Transatlantic Workshop on the Economics of Crime will be held in Ithaca, NY at Cornell University on October 9-10, 2026. It is jointly organized by Amanda Agan and Max Kapustin.
We aim to bring together researchers from both sides of the Atlantic to present and discuss their work, allowing for an in-depth interaction between those working on empirical and theoretical analyses of crime and illegal behavior.
The workshop will consist of 10-20 contributed papers including some in shorter “lightning” sessions, and two keynote lectures by Tom Kirchmaier (LSE) and Robert Sampson (Harvard).
We welcome submissions of papers on any topic broadly related to the economics of crime.
To apply, please submit a paper in PDF format by sending it to: TWEC2026@cornell.edu. The submission deadline is May 1, 2026. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by late May.
Generous funding for this conference is being provided by Arnold Ventures. We expect to be able to cover travel expenses and lodging for all presenters (within reason).
The 2026 program committee is: Amanda Agan (Cornell), Anna Bindler (DIW Berlin & University of Potsdam), Max Kapustin (Cornell), Stephen Machin (LSE), Olivier Marie (EUR), Michael Mueller-Smith (Michigan), Aurélie Ouss (Penn), and Emily Owens (UC Irvine).
Any questions can be directed to TWEC2026@cornell.edu or to Amanda or Max directly.
