Position Overview

Two postdoctoral fellow positions at Harvard Business School's Digital, Data, and Design (D^3) Institute, Climate and Sustainability Impact Lab, conducting cutting-edge research on climate, sustainability, and digital transformation.

Research Focus

The Climate and Sustainability Impact Lab advances understanding of how digital transformation and artificial intelligence in management and governance deliver financial, environmental, and social impacts.

Priority Research Areas for 2026:

  • New products, services, and businesses promoting decarbonization
  • Climate adaptation initiatives
  • Climate finance
  • Risk-sharing between insurers, governments, and households
  • Climate-induced financial risks

Broader Interests: A wide range of topics in climate and sustainability research

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • PhD in any business discipline, organizational behavior, economics, statistics, environmental or climate studies, or related field
  • All degree requirements must be satisfied prior to fellowship start date
  • Degree in climate/environmental science not required; interest or related work required
  • If PhD obtained within past 12 months, must provide certificate of completion or registrar letter

Technical Skills:

  • Causal analysis and experimental design (difference-in-differences, fixed effects, instrumental variables, treatment selection, power analysis, heterogeneous effects analysis)
  • Lab experiments, field experiments, and/or survey design
  • Programming/scripting (data processing, text manipulation)
  • Statistical analysis software (MATLAB, R, or Stata)
  • Large dataset creation and management
  • Machine learning skills (desirable)

  • Strong team player
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to build trust and collaboration
  • Presence on-site and direct engagement with colleagues

Work Arrangement

Format: Hybrid (combination of onsite and remote)

Requirements:

  • Must be onsite at Boston, MA campus
  • Specific days and schedule determined with lab PIs

Relocation: Funding not provided
