The Center for Development Research (ZEF) of the University of Bonn (Germany) seeks to hire: 1 Research Assistant (WHK, m/f/d, 18h/week)

to join the project team of “BioSummit – Bioeconomy in Dialogue”, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity. The BioSummit project is implemented in close cooperation with the International Advisory Council on Global Bioeconomy (IACGB) and aims to support the development of an inclusive and independent global bioeconomy platform that advances strategic alignment and dialogue across international bioeconomy policies and initiatives.

The position offers the opportunity to work at the interface of research, policy and international stakeholder engagement within a highly interdisciplinary and globally connected environment. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Prof. Jan Börner, Prof. Christine Lang, and Dr. Gideon Tups.

Your tasks:

  • Conduct systematic analysis and comparative assessment of bioeconomy policies and strategies at global, regional and national levels
  • Contribute to policy reports, synthesis papers and analytical outputs
  • Support stakeholder mapping and engagement processes involving academia, policy-makers, indus- try and international organizations
  • Assist in the design, preparation and facilitation of multi-stakeholder workshops, including the Global Bioeconomy Summit (Dublin, October 2026)

Your profile:

  • M.Sc. in agricultural economics, political science, sustainability sciences, or related disciplines
  • Initial experience in policy analysis, preferably in bioeconomy, agriculture, sustainability transitions, or related domains
  • Analytical skills, including quantitative or mixed-method approaches (e.g., policy databases, statisti- cal analysis, text mining, or comparative policy analysis) using tools such as R or Python
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Strong intercultural competence and willingness to engage in interdisciplinary international collabo- ration
